Young Peruvian author Santiago Roncagliolo will visit Edinburgh’s Central Library next Thursday to speak about his life and his writing.

Roncagliolo was born in Lima, Peru, in 1975, and has lived in Mexico, Spain and Peru, where he worked at the Human Rights Commission. That experience led him to write two books: the novel Red April; and the non- fiction The Fourth Sword, covering the Shining Path terrorist group.

In 2006, he was the youngest recipient of Spain’s Alfaguara Prize which he won for Red April. It has just been published in the UK, translated by Edith Grossman. He also wrote Pudor, which has been adapted into a major motion picture in Spain.

Roncagliolo’s books have been translated into 13 languages in more than 30 countries, and his articles have appeared in several Hispanic newspapers and magazines. He has also translated authors such as Joyce Carol Oates and Andre Gide into Spanish.

The Edinburgh event, which is free, starts at 6.30pm and will be chaired by writer and critic Alan Taylor.
