Thank you for covering our march in London (“Supply teachers’ fury: hairdressers leave us short”, April 16). I am the founder of Supply Teachers UK. I realise we are only 130 strong at the moment, but there are 50,000 supply teachers and our group’s aim is to get them talking to each other.
The march was better than we imagined and because of it we got on to Channel 4 News and have a contact at the DCSF who has confirmed that he has received our dossier and is reading the evidence.
However, Supply Teachers UK is realistic. We know the cover supervisor role is here to stay. So it is not cover supervisors we want abolished, as your article stated, but agency cover supervisors, who offer neither familiarity nor qualifications. It is also not true that supply teachers earn #163;150 plus as a norm - that is the amount paid to agencies.
