Special need for outside support;Letter

I WAS disappointed and concerned to read that Chris Woodhead has repeated the statement that “support services for schools could be done by anyone within a market”. This is certainly not the case for support services for children with low incidence special needs such as deafness.

The number of teachers of the deaf already fails to satisfy the need, and the suggestion that schools can apply to some free-standing service for this type of support is nonsensical.

Even the Conservative party’s proposals for “free” schools admits that LEAs will have to continue to provide support to children with special educational needs.
