AbilityNet’s Barrier Free Assessment will mean youngsters can have their computers adjusted to their needs without receiving a face-to-face visit from a specialist. The system uses a combination of broadband video streaming, webcams and the telephone to help an expert decide remotely what changes to make.
Equipment such as alternative keyboards and speech-recognition software can then be borrowed from the charity. Changes can also be made to Windows.
Children with visual impairments, dyslexia, learning difficulties and physical disabilities could all benefit from the service.
