Marius Frank, head of Bedminster Down school in Bristol, was taken aback by a message one pupil left to explain why he had arrived late at school.

The student wrote in the school’s register for latecomers that he been delayed because he had “got his cock in stuff”. An appalled Mr Frank summoned the wrongdoer. “It turned out that what he meant to write was that he had gone to get his cooking stuff,” Mr Frank said. “I still gave him a detention for his poor spelling.”
