What a difference a few days makes, as North Lanarkshire’s Dan Sweeney might say. Having walked out of the Labour Party and the education convenership of the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities, Danny McCafferty has made a Lazarus-style comeback as council leader in West Dunbartonshire.

McCafferty, now an Independent, is part of a ruling rainbow administration, which also includes the SNP and the Scottish Socialist Party. So far the council in WD, fondly known as Walt Disney we hear, has not found anyone to take the education helm, Labour having refused.

McCafferty had been challenged to attend a meeting last Wednesday with Labour group leader Andy White to discuss these murky matters. The suggested time for the meeting? High Noon.
