Semi-retired dental surgeon Bob Thornton, who is 71, has raised thousands of pounds since 1975 for the National Star Centre for Disabled Youth through sponsored walks and cycle rides. He sets out again on April 22 to cycle the 350 miles along the west coast from Millom in Cumbria to Fort William in Scotland to raise money for a new independence flat on the campus where students with a physical or sensory disability will be taught life skills.
