INVENTIVE games devised with children improve behaviour and cut bullying, a physical activity programme in West Lothian primaries is discovering.
Video analysis of playground activities in six primaries shows that more activity means less hassle for some bullied pupils. Teachers notice the difference in class.
Jo Buchanan-Smith, an Armadale Academy physical education teacher who s seconded two days a week to co-ordinate activity in six cluster primaries, said: “A lot of problems are caused by boredom. It could be the P6 pupils acting as supervisors that helps.”
The project, backed by Sportscotland, aims to link play to PE and sport through a co-ordinator. A similar scheme is being adopted in secondaries in 20 authorities.
