Gerri Bracchi is a Year 3 teacher at Cherry Trees School, Risby, near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
“We were not new to the subject. The children had already studied the Big Bang, the structure of the Earth and dinosaurs. The education officer was very responsive to our needs and very enthusiastic. Some of the introductory talk covered familiar topics but it reinforced the children’s knowledge. The bit where the children sat back to back was really good.
They loved the things like the poo, of course. Because we have a strong Montessori tradition at our school which is very sensual, the children enjoy touching things. Many of them are so used to high tech and it doesn’t do them any harm to experience a traditional museum. It was an extremely hot day, though, and it would have been nice if there was somewhere to sit down and have a glass of water at the museum. Back at school, the children talked about the trip quite a lot. They went out to a nearby field and picked up some flint which they had learned about at the museum and it made it all seem more personal. I would definitely go back.”
