Christine Dixon is deputy head of Brinsworth Manor Infants School, Rotherham

The way we were led around was really good. Paul Higgins is obviously someone in tune with everything on the site.

He puts in some humour and the children enjoyed correcting him when he made deliberate mistakes. It’s a safe site that’s well cared for. This was our first visit and from what we saw I’m sure we’ll be back. It fits in with our topic on plants and animals in the environment. I can see our Year 1s wanting to come for their topic. You can take things into the classroom but it’s not the same as seeing them living and growing, turning over logs, touching and feeling. They made so many discoveries.

When we were watching the birds in the hide the guides had the children listening with such care, watching and identifying the birds. They learned so much. Once we got back into school I was sure it was going to throw up more work than we expected. It will spur them on to put bird feeders into our school’s wild areas and see what we can attract.
