This is the second time we have brought pupils to the BBC Television Centre as part of their LeaversU Programme of visits to cultural and sporting centres. Some of them view it as a chance to explore the idea of a career in TV or journalism as it does give you some insight into what it would be like to work for the BBC.

It opens your eyes to what happens in television, how a programme is put together, what part the technicians play, and how global newsgathering and dispersal operates. The boys keep a diary of their visits and I am sure their experiences here will feature, especially the way in which they were able to try out the blue screen for the weather. Some of us had looked at the technology behind it before we came so it was very interesting to try it out in person. They also thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to take part in the quiz show.

We shall certainly watch Jonathan Ross tonight to see if we recognise the set.
