“I came to Milestones last year with a Year 5 group who used Acoustiguides to provide commentary on some parts of the museum. I didn’t think this would be so good for the key stage 1s, so we booked for Toys and Discovery which is more hands on.

The information we had beforehand was very good and made leading 60 or so pupils around less hectic than it might have been. There was no right or wrong answer to questions in the Toys section and this led to some good discussions. And when one child accidentally snapped off part of one of the toys the museum staff were very understanding.

Discovery also worked well. They loved looking closely at what they’d spotted earlier. In the sweet shop everything seemed incredibly old-fashioned until one of the children suddenly said: ‘Oh look, there’s Cadbury’s.’ We charged the children only pound;3 each - very good value because the programme linked in so strongly with KS1 ‘Britain between the wars’.”
