Katy Moyes, Year 3 teacher and year leader, Upton Junior School, Poole, Dorset

We wanted to use the Ancient Technology Centre to provide a stimulating starting point for our topic on the Romans. Our Year 3 children have been coming here for years and staff agree that it is one of the best visits we go on. It is great for the children to have first-hand experience of what it would have been like to live in Celtic and early Roman Britain. There was no end to the questions the children wanted to ask and it is great that the staff at the centre are so knowledgeable.

Back at school we plan to use the visit as a starting point for further investigation into the effects of the Roman invasion and settlement in Britain and we’ll be looking at the similarities and differences in their lives compared with ours today.

The children will end the topic with a presentation to parents which will feature items made on our visit to the ATC.
