Staff to block ‘immoral’ pay rise

THE National Union of Teachers and Fire Brigades Union in Calderdale, Yorkshire, will join forces next week in an attempt to stop councillors awarding themselves a 43 per cent pay rise. The rise was recommended by an independent review, but Sue McMahon, divisional secretary of the NUT, said it would be immoral when up to 40 staff at Calderdale school of physical education could lose their jobs because of lack of public funds.
