Staff could miss out on pay rise

Half of all classroom teachers in England and Wales could miss out on their first annual pay rise in three years as a result of salary reforms, the ATL union has warned. After a two-year pay freeze for teachers, a below-inflation rise of 1 per cent is due to take effect in 2013-14. But education secretary Michael Gove has said it should be applied only to teachers at the top and bottom of the main pay scale.
