A Confident Return to Primary Teaching is a distance learning pack for career-break teachers who wish to return to the profession. It could be used by individuals, by schools who want to provide their returners with an induction programme, or by colleges and local authorities who want to provide support for people based in several schools. Sex Education from Pearson Publishing, shows teachers how they can provide a comprehensive sex education programme within the constraints of statutory guidelines.The pack illustrates ways of modifying existing policies or developing new ones. It also defines the roles of governors, headteachers, teachers, and parents. It can be used as a document for a school working party on sex education, within a broader context of health education, as a support for dialogue with parents and community groups and as an aid to curriculum planning.

The Counselling Skills Resource Bank from the National Extension College aims to redress the shortage of quality materials to support counsellor training, particularly at introductory and certificate level. It is fully photocopiable and contains worksheets and handouts for individual, pair and group activities and discussions. Trainers are given guidance and support throughout, say the authors. Many teachers are uncertain about the boundaries of confidentiality, and therefore can’t help young people. Confidentiality in Schools: a Training Manual, published by the Brook Advisory Centres on behalf of the Sex Education Alliance (seven national organisations including the Health Education Authority and Family Planning Association), is a manual for in-service training providers working with parents, pupils, teachers, governors and other professionals to develop a code which is understood by everyone.
