As a rural intermediate school (Years 6-8) in West Sussex, we value the lessons in cultural diversity our children gain from yearly exchange visits with Hillview Primary, Malawi, southern Africa. This year, hosts and guests visited the South Downs Planetarium in Chichester (www.southdowns.

org.uksdpt). Rydon’s Jolene Gander and Hillview’s Yamikane Nyang’wa, above, are looking at projections of the Earth in a tailored show that also enabled them to compare the night skies over each of their countries. There were many curriculum links to follow up and our pupils benefited enormously from their role as hosts.
