Ministers have moved towards including more progressive teaching methods in England’s schools. The Government published research into the possibility of bringing Steiner schools - where pupils do not sit national tests - into the state system. The Department for Education and Skills also put pound;40,000 into a project to help a tough Manchester primary school adopt the Montessori method, which involves children choosing what they study.
