State schools still supreme

The proportion of youngsters attending Scotland's 150 independent schools has barely changed in 10 years, according to census data issued this week.

The 30,344 pupils in the independent sector represent 4 per cent of Scottish pupils. Numbers in primaries have been declining steadily, while those in secondaries have remained static since 2002.
