I doubt that your pejorative headline referring to “Company cast-offs” (TES, September 1) will encourage many people to make the transition from industry into teaching. It implies a dismayingly condescending attitude from The TES to those of us who are about to make the change.

Management gurus such as Tom Peters tell us periodically to make a big change in our lifestyles in order to stay fresh. There are many of us who have spent years in industry who want to make this change happen, who want to bring our various experiences into teaching and who voluntarily incur financial penalties in the process.
