LABOUR can no longer be relied on to provide mayhem by the seaside. These days most of the in-fighting takes place off-stage in the policy reviews, but there may be a few grumbles in Bournemouth from those delegates who are also teachers about performance-related pay.

The national policy commission reports that it has received “a wide variety of submissions” on the Green Paper on teaching reforms. Not only that, the Bristol East party has sent in a note of concern about the extent to which the Governnment intends to “privatise” state schools.
