Stirling stuff at St Modan’s

AS St Bernadette’s primary in Tullibody prepares to celebrate its silver jubilee in the modest surroundings of the school hall at the equally modest cost of pound;8 a head, spare a thought for parents of St Modan’s High farther up the Forth in Stirling.

Now in its 70th year, the school praised by inspectors and no less a person than Jack McConnell himself when he was education minister, will be celebrating in the altogether grander surroundings of the Great Hall in Stirling Castle at a cost of pound;65 (100 euros) a ticket.

After stumping up more than 500 euros a skull to travel to a certain football match in Seville, some parents may be forced to sit this one out.

So much for social inclusion.

First Minister Jack did not make it to Spain. Will he make it to the celebrations of one of his favourite non-failing schools? More to the point, will he be required to stump up? The world holds its breath.
