An extension to Clapham Manor Primary in London and Christ’s College School, Guildford, are taking on some of the most lavish construction projects from across Europe, including two national museums in Berlin and in Rome. While neither was procured through Building Schools for the Future, which was cut by the Government a fortnight ago, it will come as a boon to those in the sector that two schools have made the shortlist for first time.

Ruth Reed, president of the Royal Institute of British Architects, said: “Investment in well-designed schools demonstrates to teachers and pupils how much they are valued and has measurable impact - attendance and results rise; truancy and bullying fall.”

The Clapham Manor project was designed by dRMM and Christ’s College by DSDHA.

The awards will be presented live on BBC2 on October 2 at 6.30pm by Kevin McCloud.
