Stop right there: the learning limbo land

The Campaign for State Education (CASE) recently wrote a letter to education secretary Michael Gove outlining all our concerns with the latest white paper.

We stressed that the proposal to prevent graduates who have not achieved a 2:2 degree from training is not sustainable. The new targets will be even harder to hit if these new restrictions go through.

In 2009, 9.7 per cent of all trainee teachers had not gained at least a second-class degree. However, the comparable figure is 26 per cent for physics, 21 per cent for maths and 17 per cent for chemistry. We do, however, welcome the introduction of subject-specific recruitment targets in principle.
