Storybook TV is a video of stories for children, written by Scottish authors such as Mairi Hedderwick, Debi Gliori and Frank Rogers, and published by the Scottish Council for Educational Technology. “The stories come alive through the imaginative use of voice and the skilful filming of the illustrations to create movement,” wrote Sheila Campbell, headteacher of Kilbowie Primary, in a TESS review.

Now the programme for pre-school and Primary 1 children is available on a CD-Rom with a word bank and activitie relating to all the stories. The activities section reinforces learned words in a variety of exercises and develops core skills such as problem solving, reading, counting and matching. Children are also introduced to basic information and communications technology skills and computer mouse control.

A copy of the CD-Rom will be distributed to all Scottish primary schools in January. For further information contact Heidi Eckert, SCET, 74 Victoria Crescent Road, Glasgow G12 9JN, tel 0141 337 5022.
