Strike threat saves jobs

Plans to make 50 teachers and 110 support staff redundant in Leeds by the end of August, because of school closures and falling roles, were called off this week after unions threatened strike action. The news came as Peter Ridsdale, former Leeds United chairman, quit as chairman of Education Leeds, which runs schools in the city.
