Struggling to meet pupils’ needs

How many more research reports are required before we realise that current teacher education fails to prepare the profession to meet the needs of complex learners? Initial teacher education in severe learning difficulties was abolished in 1988 with disastrous results. How long will the needs of student teachers and the increasing number of complex learners in our schools remain unmet by the irrelevance of the national curriculum?
