Extremely high levels of student satisfaction with the teaching quality in colleges and work-based provision has been confirmed by independent researchers.

The largest survey of the views of post-16 learners ever undertaken in England shows that overall satisfaction is very high across FE, work-based learning and adult and community provision. Only 6 per cent expressed dissatisfaction.

The National Learner Satisfaction Survey was commissioned by the Learning and Skills Council.

In colleges, the numbers of students saying they are “extremely” satisfied has increased. The biggest improvement has been in sixth-form colleges.

The survey found that quality of teaching and training was the biggest influence. Across all types of provision, more than nine in 10 learners are satisfied.

The highest ratings are teachers’ subject knowledge and their ability to relate to the learner. More than 96 per cent of students felt welcome at their college.
