Students’ scrutiny is about feedback, not blame

While the article on student voice in the TES Magazine (“Right to be heard”, January 23) was fair and balanced, it missed one crucial point with regard to the Insted scheme at Beauchamp College, where pupils observe lessons.

In order to take part in this scheme, students undergo a rigorous interview process and the selection and training of student observers is very thorough.

The students involved are dedicated and professional in their approach and the notion that students could “tell staff that they’re going to be watched next and they had better look out” is anathema to me and to our Insted team.

I simply cannot conceive of this type of incident occurring and can assure you that if it did it would be a serious disciplinary matter.

Gill Greany, Assistant principal, Beauchamp College, Leicester.
