Students were the stars in bone marrow donor drive

Can I take this opportunity to thank TESS for publicising Biggar High School’s pioneering work with the Anthony Nolan trust and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (“Students join bone marrow register”, 16 August). Our senior students, led by our house captains, assumed full responsibility for the running of the event and everyone involved in the process developed a clear understanding of the significance and importance of joining the register. Our ambition is that other South Lanarkshire schools will build on our pilot this year and many more young adults will sign up.

I would be more than happy to provide a copy of our evaluation report to any schools that want to find out more about running a programme like this (headteacher@biggar.s-lanark.sch.uk).

Robert Stewart, Headteacher, Biggar High School, South Lanarkshire.
