Study too dear for rural young

Teenagers in rural areas are not getting the education and training opportunities they need, according to research.

New 14 to 19 vocational diplomas are unlikely to be offered at every further education college in rural areas despite teenagers having a statutory entitlement to study them from 2008.

But many cannot afford the move to attend college in the city, the study by IPPR North, the Newcastle office of the Institute for Public Policy Research, said.
