Original ideas are sought for tools based on creative educational practice or innovative technology. These should support teachers to be pioneering in their own learning or that of their students.
Applicants should take account of the changing role of the teacher: "They will be sharing knowledge and skills with colleagues and learners... They will teach in an environment where learners lead as well as follow, where networks bring experts from outside school, and where the curriculum accounts for work done outside the classroom."
Previous winners of support from Futurelab include a disaster in space tackled by video-conferencing, a racing videogame that accurately models auto engineering, and an outdoor game in which children use wireless technology and interactive whiteboards to survive as lions on the savannah.
