David Henderson reports on what lies ahead for the growing trend towards curriculum flexibility in secondaries

Subjects will remain at the heart of classroom teaching but “we must break the mindset that the subject is the end-all and be-all”, Douglas Marr, school management and curriculum co-ordinator in Aberdeenshire, said.

Schools will also have to consider how they teach, working co-operatively between upper primary and early secondary.
