Alness Academy’s geoscience club has won the Scottish government’s Junior Saltire Prize Award 2012 (S1-S3) for innovation in marine renewable energy. The team had to design and build a simple wave-powered generator and construct a model wave machine to work with it.
Pure genius
STEM
European Schoolnet, a network of 30 ministries of education in Europe, is calling for a further 160 schools to join pilot activities in inGenious, the European Commission’s biggest joint-funded project in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) education to date. Fresh approach

Glasgow’s Tramway presents a “Fresh Faced” night on 30 June in association with the National Theatre of Scotland’s Macbeth production. The evening begins with an exhibition and workshops by recent graduates of the Tramway Visual Arts Studio’s portfolio preparation course. Former students will present their work and explore some of the processes investigated on the course. Visit www.tramway.org

Youth Scotland’s Dynamic Youth Awards have been credit-rated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority at Level 3 on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework. These provide a peer-assessed approach to recognising non-formal learning for people aged 10-14.
