Literacy

- Glasgow school librarians and teachers have been working with secondary pupils to publish a magazine called Yaldi. Writing workshops were held with journalist Laura Kelly and writers and journalists Fiona Gibson and Dan Freedman. Issue one has a creative writing theme. Issue two features sports, to coincide with the Olympics.

Award winner

Physics

- Colin Barbour, principal teacher at St Joseph’s Academy in Kilmarnock, has won a teacher of physics award from the Institute of Physics. Mr Barbour was nominated for the prize, which comes with a cheque of pound;300, by Professor Danny Forman, whose daughter he taught. Former pupils were asked for testimonials on his teaching ability.
