A little reading

Literacy

- The Usborne Foundation has launched Teach Your Monster to Read: First Steps - a free online game to help children practise and consolidate the first stages of reading. The game aims to develop children’s speed and accuracy of letter recognition. It also explores blending and segmenting, and introduces “tricky” words in a fun, interactive setting.

Going global

Cross-curricular

- Education Scotland has published a new global citizenship calendar for 2012-13 with all major events and dates collated online. The calendar will allow teachers to plan and connect learning, and assist them to embed global citizenship themes in the curriculum. World Water Week, for instance, runs 26-31 August.
