- Children and staff at St Clare’s Day Nursery in Glasgow have celebrated the official opening of their revamped garden and playground. With the help of pound;10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund, the outdoor area has been transformed to include an all-weather gazebo area, storyteller’s chair and shaky bridge.

- Scotland’s first floating classroom on its canals, The Wooden Spoon Seagull, is ready to welcome teachers and their pupils on board. Fully equipped, heated and with modern facilities that can support people with special needs, the classroom boat has space for up to 36 passengers. It is moored at the Falkirk Wheel. - BeXcellent - the new website launched by the Children in Scotland charity to put learning into action - is running a competition. Entrants need to show how learning has made them happy or confident by submitting a creative or innovative poem, song, story, podcast, video, photo, artwork or interview. - Secondary schools are being urged to sign up for Scottish Power’s Story Generator initiative, run in association with the Edinburgh International Book Festival. Children’s writer Elizabeth Wein has provided the opening line for the initiative from her novel Code Name Verity - “I wanted to be heroic and I pretended I was.” Pupils have to take the story forward. - Girlguiding UK has recruited famous ex-members as role models to tell girls that “nothing is beyond their reach”. The line-up includes gold medallist Ellie Simmonds and BBC journalist Kate Silverton. The organisation has also launched 10 videos featuring successful women from a range of backgrounds to inspire girls to think more about their futures.
