- Stranraer Academy will soon be visited by Labour MSP Graeme Pearson as the school’s “project parliament” enters its next phase. He will hold a Qamp;A session and drop-in surgery and visit classes. The project aims to combat voter apathy and deepen pupils’ knowledge. It also includes visits to the Scottish Parliament and three parliamentary internships.

- The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has reminded 11-16s that entry to the Bafta Young Game Designers competition closes on 22 October. There are two categories - the Concept Award, for those with an idea for a new game, and the Game-Making Award, for those who want to use game-making software or programming languages. www.bafta.orgygd.
