- Biggar Primary exceeded its target of raising #163;10,000 by Christmas to fund the building of a teacher’s house at its global partnership school in Gelai Bomba, Longido, Tanzania. It has been joined in its efforts by Biggar High, Girl Guides and Brownies packs, the Rotary Club of Biggar, Biggar Little Film Club, and those who made personal donations.

lThe Commonwealth Orchard project marked the festive season by donating 100 “edible” Christmas trees to nursery and primary schools - apples for the teacher, plums for the pudding and pears for the partridge. The project was started five years ago in Braid Park in Glasgow and has since planted orchards in various locations.
