Holocaust day

- Broughton High in Edinburgh hosted Holocaust Memorial Day with an event led by Lord Provost Donald Wilson and organised in partnership with the Edinburgh Inter-Faith Association. Guests included the musician and Rwandan genocide survivor Jean-Paul Samputu, Holocaust survivor Marianne Lazlo, and Sello Hatang from the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory. Pupils performed readings, dance, music recitals and short dramatic sketches.

Health

- Perth and Kinross Council, its community planning partners and the Social Research Unit at Dartington are working together on Evidence2 Success, the first project of its kind in the UK. P5-S4 pupils are being asked to complete an online survey on topics such as education, emotional health, drugs and alcohol and relationships.

Waste not ...

Environment

- Pupils and staff from Inverness Royal Academy and the Gaelic school Bun-sgoil Ghaidhlig Inbhir Nis have joined staff from Asda and the Highland Council in an anti-litter campaign. Nearly a third of the 24kg of waste collected was recycled.

Out in the field

Conservation

- Four Advanced Higher Biology pupils from Lornshill Academy in Clackmannanshire are heading to Cuba this summer to take part in a conservation project. Operation Wallacea is an academic partnership that carries out conservation research across the world. The pupils will be taught about the local environment, learn how to identify local species, and collect and analyse field data.

Nutrition

- Seafood Scotland took its Seafood in Schools programme to Bathgate Academy in West Lothian this week. More than 200 secondary and primary pupils attended workshops, learning about seafood’s nutritious qualities and how it gets to their plates. They tasted a variety of fish and seafood and handled live species including crab, lobster, monkfish and squid.
