Philosophy
- A free resource has been built by Damaris around the film Life of Pi. - More than 100 students from seven countries have enrolled at Kilgraston School’s new Language and Activities Centre this summer. The centre is gearing up to welcome students from Russia, Spain, Italy, Slovakia, Turkey, Brazil and Germany, creating a mini UN in the Perthshire hills.

- Kilmarnock Academy students have won four trophies in the F1 in Schools regional final, to become the Scottish champions for creating the best miniature cars. The S3s were due to take part in the UK title at the London finals yesterday. Kilmarnock Academy, under the guidance of teacher Tom Campbell, has won the Bloodhound Challenge for the past three years.

- Stirling High has launched a free calendar and news smartphone app for parents and pupils. Available on iPhones and Android phones, the app gives parents the school calendar, a news feed and the ability to tailor the contents to their children’s activities. Any changes to the calendar or important news, such as an event being cancelled, can be instantly updated to the phone. www.appscentral.co.uk

Art
- The Lord Advocate, Frank Mulholland QC, has announced the winning students in a South Lanarkshire schools art competition, designed to promote equality through art and educate pupils about hate crime. S3 children from Biggar High, Calderside Academy and John Ogilvie High took part in the “Promoting Equality Together Through Art” competition. The winner was Jack Gault, from John Ogilvie High.
