Modern languages

- The British Academy is offering a series of awards to UK schools and colleges to recognise excellence in language learning. The focus this year is on activity that encourages students to take language study to advanced and degree level. A total of 15 awards of #163;4,000 each will be distributed to successful applicants across the UK. bit.lyLanguageAwards

History

- Monday 8 April was the 20th anniversary of Oscar-winning film Schindler’s List. The film tells the story of Oskar Schindler, who saved the lives of more than 1,000 mostly Polish-Jewish refugees during the Holocaust. Educate students about the Holocaust with this TES collection of free teaching resources.

Citizenship

- The 911 London Project is offering students aged 14-16 the chance to win a trip to New York this September, which will include a visit to the 911 memorial. Students must write about how 911 changed the world or how they would keep the memory of 911 alive in the UK.

Dance

- Get a taste of stardom with the British Red Cross national dance competition, Make Your Move, for young people of all abilities aged 4-18. Anyone who takes part in a registered dance competition at venues across the UK, from now until July, is encouraged to raise a minimum of #163;50 for TES partner British Red Cross. The finalists will perform at IndigO2 at the O2 Arena in London. School groups are welcome. bit.lyRedCrossDance

Global citizenship

- Some 12 million people are enslaved worldwide, many of them women and children. Encourage students to think about slavery in the past and as a continuing human rights issue with a booklet from TES partner Citizenship Foundation. Ask them to think why slavery still exists and what they could do to take a stand against it. bit.lyEnding Slavery.
