Prize potential

SCOTS

The Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway is the favourite to win the Art Fund Prize for the UK’s best museum this week. The visitor centre, opened in January, holds the largest collection of original Burns manuscripts and offers workshops and guided tours for primary and secondary pupils. The winner of the pound;100,000 prize will be announced on Wednesday.

Lost treasure

HISTORY

A 3,000-year-old spearhead found in a Borders garden features in the Treasures Lost and Found exhibition at Coldstream Museum (4 June-21 August). Other treasures include Roman artefacts, prehisoric pottery and an early medieval bell. The spearhead was awarded to the Scottish Borders Council Museums Service by the Treasure Trove Panel.
