Bear necessities

Nursery

Govan Family Learning Centre in Glasgow has received a glowing report from HMIE. In addition to the 86 children who are enrolled, the nursery has two bears, Paddy and Jeanie, which the children take home and then use to discuss their home life and achievements.

Young achievers

Transition

Primary 7 pupils in South Ayrshire have been celebrating their Junior Achievement Awards. These provide learning activities in the transition years of P7-S1, move learning beyond the classroom into a wider community, encourage a link between school and leisure, and encourage pupils to see themselves as valued members of their communities.

Life in 2050

Science

Callum Brown, a pupil at St Margaret’s Primary in Falkirk, has won second prize in the Chemical Industries Association science competition, held at the House of Commons. The UK competition, celebrating the 2011 Year of Chemistry, invited students of all ages to imagine what life would be like in 2050 and draw pictures to illustrate it, or think up things they wish existed, from robots that cook to magic plasters that help you to heal faster.

Golden jubilee

Community

St Paul’s Primary in Renfrewshire has been celebrating its Golden Jubilee with a Mass and reception where current and former staff and pupils, parents, church representatives and councillors were able to swap memories and revive friendships.
