Hearty singing

Secondary teachers and pupils are being called on to sing their favourite songs as part of a Christmas event organised by charity Heart Research UK. “Sing for your Heart” (8-15 December), will see pupils and teachers singing and raising money for pioneering research into heart disease. www.heartresearch.org.uk

Nobel duo

Science amp; History

Kilmarnock Academy will hold a one-day conference in September to celebrate being the only school in Scotland to nurture two Nobel prizewinners. It will honour Sir Alexander Fleming and Lord John Boyd Orr, and examine the school’s record of producing notable scientists. It will be led by renowned scientist Professor Hugh Pennington.
