Children from St Michael’s, St Anne’s and Dalmarnock primaries in the east end of Glasgow have created an audio-visual mural about what they need to safe, healthy and happy. It is part of StreetsAhead, an anti-gang programme which aims to create a culture of non-violence.

P6-7 pupils at Broughton Primary in Edinburgh unveiled their book last week at the City Chambers. They had linked up with publishing specialists and author Marty Turner Thomson through the Pencilling Creative Ideas project to write and publish School Daze, the tale of a magical school staircase that leads to other worlds. P1 pupils from St Angela’s Primary in Darnley were treated to a special tea with Santa at Hamleys in Glasgow last week after winning a schools competition. The children, who had to paint or draw their favourite things about Christmas, were chosen from hundreds of entries from primary pupils desperate to meet Santa.

A fortnightly “Fruit Frenzy” is being introduced at Claremont Primary in Alloa as part of its commitment to a healthy tuck shop and promoting health and well-being within Curriculum for Excellence. The initiative will see a selection of fruity treats, including smoothies, fruit bags and fruit kebabs, prepared by parent helpers, available every other Wednesday for 20p.

A website highlighting internet safety to children has been developed by Motherwell FC and North Lanarkshire Council’s child protection team. The site features an animated boy who takes children through five golden rules to stay safe online, as well as advice and tips on other web activities, including social networking, chat rooms and cyber bullying.
