Art

A team of S6 pupils from St Thomas of Aquin’s High has won the John Byrne Award 2011 for its triptych of portraits inspired by triptychs of the early Renaissance. Artist and writer John Byrne presented the winning team with a pound;7,000 cheque: pound;5,000 of it will be donated to social projects chosen by the winners; the rest will be spent on personal development for the team.

A former pupil of Calderside Academy, South Lanarkshire, has been named the top student of 5,365 candidates who took the Intermediate 2 hospitality practical cookery course. Alysha Sommerville receives pound;250; her school receives a pound;250 meat voucher.
