Education went to the top of the agenda at the Kirking o’ the Council service at Barrhead’s Bourock Church recently.
As assembled East Renfrewshire councillors looked on, the Rev Maureen Leitch, a religious rep on the education committee, gathered the children round her to tell them what councillors do.
“Councillors work for us and run the schools you go to,” she told the kids.
None of them looked too happy. “They’re planning a new Carlibar primary school for you. Now, what do you think of that?”
Sixty unhappy faces looked back as one, while adults, councillors and Leitch herself laughed at their very honest and collective reaction. Suffer little children, as the good book says.
