Barrington Stoke, publisher of fiction for reluctant readers, has launched a new list for readers aged eight to 13. 4u2read.ok offers parallel texts of popular Barrington Stoke titles but are simplified for children with a reading age below eight years. The list was extensively researched with children and teachers before publication.

The books use thought bubbles and many teachers said this device supports and extends the storyline. One noted that they “make readers part of the story and bring characters to life I also give the reader some power - knows what other characters do not”.

Another commented that they can be used as a whole class reader to discuss social issues linked with personal, social and health education because they were “easy to read for SEN kids but complex enough to provoke meaningful discussion”.

The first six titles cost pound;4.50 each. Contact Barrington Stoke, tel 0131 315 4933; e-mail info@barringtonstoke.co.uk; www.barringtonstoke.co.uk
