In total, I have about 11 books sitting waiting for me. I stockpile before the holiday because I love books and don’t get the chance to read much during term-time.

I like long and involved stories, with lots of things you’ve got to try to work out, so I’m looking forward to Labyrinth by Kate Mosse. It’s a long, thick read, which is just right for the summer holidays.

The Solitude of Thomas Cave by Georgina Harding was recommended to me by my sister-in-law. It’s set in the Arctic and is about a guy who is left there to survive the winter. Apparently, it’s beautifully written, with amazing description.

I like different books for different occasions. Generally, I like books that are well-written and probably don’t have much in the way of plot, but you just immerse yourself in the writing, the place it’s set and somebody else’s thoughts.

Another one I’m keen to get stuck into is children’s book Tanglewreck by Jeanette Winterson. I bought it last year with my nine-year-old son at the Edinburgh book festival, where I heard her speak. There are such brilliant children’s authors out there, it’s important to keep abreast.
